Happy Birthday, Home League!
The Salvation Army’s Home League program—which is the basis for Women’s Ministries—will celebrate 100 years of witness and activity in 2007. “Home League is the secret weapon of Women’s Ministries in every corps,” said Commissioner Pat Swyers, territorial president of Women’s Ministries. “I have a great passion for it!”

Growing in Denver
The Denver Red Shield Corps, Colo., celebrated the first Sunday of Advent by enrolling three senior soldiers, one junior soldier and one adherent. Congratulations to senior soldiers Alex Acs, Nathan Acs, and Michael Sturgeon; junior soldier Shallah Harris; and adherent Joseph Ray.

Sacramento ARC celebrates sobriety
Under the direction of Captains Grady and Julie Brown, the Sacramento, Calif., ARC hosted its first Sobriety Banquet recently. Commissioner Kenneth Hood was the special guest speaker at the event, which was attended by 304, including 65 alumni of the Sacramento ARC. Two youth singing groups from the Sacramento Citadel Corps provided special music. Awards were presented to: Dr. Tom Smith, Intern of the Year; Bob Evans, Volunteer of the Year; and Billy Burke, Alumni of the Year.

Well done, Major Dihle!
Territorial Candidates & Recruitment Secretary Major Nancy Dihle has earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Leadership, cum laude, from Azusa Pacific University. Congratulations, Major!

Northwest teams up with Lu-lu
The Northwest Division produced the first-ever Salvation Army Lu-lu Christmas card through a partnership between the Army and Madison Park Greetings, which is owned by Seattle advisory board members Brian Jacobsen and his mother, Judi Jacobsen. The card featured Lu-lu, a popular greeting card character, ringing the famous Salvation Army bell.

In addition, Brian Jacobsen donated cards and advisory board member Dick Starr provided stamps for clients at some of the Army’s domestic violence shelters, so they could wish friends and family Merry Christmas. “The division hopes to expand the Salvation Army/Lu-lu program next year to include multiple cards and a wider audience,” stated Shanti Hahler, divisional community relations director.

Girl Scouts do good turn for ARC
Girl Scouts teamed up with The Salvation Army for the 10th annual “Be Your Best & Do a Good Turn” clothing drive to benefit the San Diego ARC. Some 6,500 Girl Scouts earned badges for community service by participating in the project. More than 70 tons of clothing and household materials were collected at eight different sites throughout San Diego and Imperial Counties. Majors David and Pat Boyd welcomed them at the ARC and the girls had an opportunity to tour the facility.

New appointment
Captains Kris & Camie Potter, Roseville, Calif., corps officers, have been appointed to the Cascade Division as Portland Moore Street, Ore., corps officers, effective January 31, 2007.
