SALVATION ARMY 101–General Paul Rader and Commissioner Kay Rader discuss the Army’s future as it nears 2000.

Well over 2,200 delegates to the quadrennial National Advisory Organizations Conference had opportunities to be challenged, inspired, involved, and motivated during the recent Pasadena event. General Paul Rader, the Army’s international leader, Commissioner Robert Watson, national commander, and leaders of the National Advisory Board provided the basic focus for the event.

The entire conference was funded by delegate registration fees and sponsorships provided by major national corporations.

Every delegate had the opportunity to provide conference leaders with their anonymous, individual responses to open and frank questions concerning the effectiveness of Army administrators working with local boards. This was accomplished through a network of colorful “kiosks” which surveyed and tabulated responses.

Workshops were designed to provide specific assistance on particular topics according to community population size in which programs were situated. A new national award, the Evangeline Booth Award, was presented to five outstanding recipients who share the kinds of values and commitments modeled by Evangeline Booth.

The Army’s International Staff Band from London and the Pasadena Tabernacle Songsters thrilled a capacity audience in the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on the final evening prior to the Sunday morning period of spiritual exploration led by Rader.
