Nikolaus Van and his dad, Alex, stood at the kettle at Sam’s Club in Torrance, Calif., on Saturday, December 20th, 2008 from 8:30 am to 9:00 pm. Nikolaus wore his Boy Scout uniform and played Christmas carols on his trumpet. He was joined by a few of his fellow Scouts who came to support him throughout the day. Last year, Nikolaus stood at Toys R Us and collected just over $1,000 in the same period of time. His goal this year was to top that amount. He was thrilled when he learned that he not only topped last year’s amount, but that he set a record as well, collecting a total of $2,040.
