The introductory “volley” of the Western Territory’s SAVN.tv occurred at the Welcome of Cadets event, with promos and introductory content airing on the network, including a live stream of the pre-meeting red, yellow and blue carpet event, along with specials commemorating the 10th anniversary of 9/11/2001.

SAVN.tv—not only are these Internet TV call letters an acronym for Salvation Army Vision Network, they are also a contraction of the word, “salvation.” SAVN.tv is a Salvation Army Internet mission station where salvation can be found.

Jesus first cast the vision for this mission station with the Great Commission: “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation” (Mark 16:15). William Booth carried the vision into the 19th and 20th centuries with his proclamation: “We are a salvation people. This is our specialty—getting saved, keeping saved, and getting other people saved.” Commissioner James Knaggs contemporizes the vision for the 21st century: “The Internet and cyberspace are our contemporary, virtual street corners ‘into all the world’ and ‘getting people saved.’”

Consider the 2.1 billion or so Internet users worldwide—growing exponentially—with 273 million users in North America. Purpose-built Facebook pages have created more than 5.3 billion fans. About 70 percent of Facebook users are outside the U.S.—a plethora of virtual street corners for us to stand and share the gospel.

The implementation phase of SAVN.tv began in March of this year. The network is launching in three phases (volleys)—the first happened at the Welcome of Cadets—culminating with a Grand Premiere Gala in 2012, details forthcoming.
