The Salvation Army in Sacramento successfully raised over $200,000 at its 11th Annual Community Luncheon attended by more than 1,200.
During the event, Jack Kimmell and Kimmell Construction were honored with the Partners in Community Service Award, which is presented to an individual or company in the local community who is truly making a difference to enhance and develop the Army’s programs and services.
Kimmel, the company’s president, serves as a member of The Salvation Army’s Sacramento Advisory Board and has supported a long-standing and cherished tradition of donating time and resources to The Salvation Army. His father, Al Kimmel, was also a member of the Sacramento Advisory Board and possesses a steadfast dedication to the Army and reaching out to the community.
The Army’s programs and services in Sacramento were profiled during the luncheon. Yolanda Greer, a mother of three, spoke on how the Army has affected her life—she has been sending her children to the Ray Robinson Oak Park Community Center’s after-school program for a couple of years, and during this time, they have excelled in school as a result of the tutoring received at the Community Center.
Another highlight took place when 9-year-old Allee Wrobel, a junior soldier at the Sacramento Citadel Corps, proudly sang the National Anthem; she received a standing ovation.
The Salvation Army Annual Community Luncheon is the largest fundraising luncheon event in the Sacramento region. Since its inception over 10 years ago, the Annual Community Luncheon has raised over $1 million to support programs and services of The Salvation Army in Sacramento. Bill Martin served as chair of this year’s luncheon.
