Majors Del and Vicky Brockelman have entered the ranks of the retired officers. The Seattle Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) hosted a luncheon celebrating their 35 years, five months and 22 days of Salvation Army service on October 10. Lt. Colonel David Hudson presented the retirement certificates. Flagbearers were Major Sabrina Tumey and Mark Hernandez of the Stockton ARC.

Music was always an important component of their lives. The theme, “Life is a song when you walk with Jesus,” reflected this interest and highlighted the Brockelmans’ career as officers. A power point presentation, orchestrated by son Kraig and daughter Major Sabrina Tumey, featured a song representative of each appointment.

The Brockelmans entered the Salvation Army School for Officer Training in San Francisco from the Las Vegas, Nev., corps in 1972. They were commissioned with the Followers of Christ session in 1974 and appointed to Caldwell, Ida. Assignment to Medford, Ore., followed two years later, where they conducted a successful capital campaign to build a new, much-needed multi-services center.

The couple served in the Intermountain Division for 13 years. Appointments included Colorado Springs and Grand Junction Colo., and Salt Lake City, Utah. In Grand Junction, they conducted a capital campaign for a new corps community center. The next three years were spent as corps officers in Tacoma, Wash. They were then appointed to the Adult Rehabilitation Centers Command, serving eight years at the Stockton, Calif., ARC, and the last 20 months as chaplains at the Seattle, Wash., ARC.

The Brockelmans are making their retirement home in Eugene, Ore.
