Dr. Jack Anderson, Ph.D

With the appointment of Jack Anderson, Ph.D., to be director of the West’s pastoral care ministry upon the retirement of Majors Earl and Annette McInnes, the Army signals its continuing commitment to officer development.

“My role is to build on the fine foundation established by Earl and Annette,” says Anderson. “The ongoing need for confidential counseling continues. The McInneses have established a safe and protected way for officers to talk about the most personal matters in their lives.”

Currently, the Army provides counseling to officers and their families at an off-campus location near Territorial Headquarters. It also helps officers in the field connect with counselors in their own location.

Anderson sees a growing need for a preventative approach to officer care, including expanding the existing marriage workshops to include all officers on a regular basis, developing training resources to help officers with parenting skills, and developing a mentoring program to link newly commissioned lieutenants with seasoned officers.

He holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Texas, El Paso, a Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary, a Master of Theology from Princeton Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Fuller Theological Seminary.

For the past 10 years he has provided psychological consultation to the CFOT, including personal growth workshops, individual and marital therapy, family care consultation and parent training classes. He also serves on the school’s Board of Advisors.

A life-long Salvationist, Anderson soldiers at the Pasadena Tabernacle Corps with his wife, Barbara and daughters Laura and Julia.
