They took the rank of Auxiliary Captain in 1994 when Harold was appointed director of Laotian Ministries at divisional headquarters in San Francisco.

In 1997 they were assigned as corps officers at Denver West Adams Corps. They were reassigned in 1998 to Northwest DHQ to open a new Laotian Corps in Tacoma, Wash., then served at Seattle Central Corps as corps officers. Howard completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in ministry during these years. The Tanovans were commissioned full captains in 1999.

Services were held at the Seattle Temple Corps with Colonel Bruce Harvey (R) officiating and Lt. Colonel Mervyn Morelock (R) leading. Interment followed at the Washington Park Cemetery.
