The Gresham, Ore., corps hosted its first piano recital featuring local children who have been taking lessons at the Gresham Corps for the past year.

The idea of piano lessons came about as the result of a dream Major Brenda Hathorn had for the corps. “Every corps we have been appointed to has not had a piano player available,” said Hathorn. “It is my dream that Gresham raise up someone who can continue with the piano if we are to leave the area one day.”

Listening to the recital, it is evident that her dream just may come true. Eleven students participated in the recital, showing great progress in their ability to perform.

“It warms my heart to see Megan and Tashia playing the keyboards for the worship team every Sunday,” said Major Bill Hathorn. “They started a year ago, and to see them glorifying God on Sunday mornings with their newly developed talents continues to thrill me.”

Both Tashia Houston and Megan McQuade are juniors in high school and are the oldest students learning to play. Other students are younger, but they are progressing well.

It is looking more and more like this dream could become a reality. If all the students stay with it, the Gresham corps will definitely have many talented musicians who will continue to glorify God with the talents that he has given to them.
