major maria yepez honored in rose parade. major maria yepez honored in rose parade. major maria yepez, who was promoted to glory in january 2009, was an organ donor. sunny luna, 35, of fresno, calif. received a kidney from yepez. the california transplant donor network chose luna to be one of 24 organ recipients to ride on the donate life float in the 2010 tournament of roses parade in pasadena on jan. 1, 2010. the yepez family gave permission for maria de los angeles yepez’s picture to appear on the float. the picture shown here is a “floragraph”–an image made of seeds and plant material. yepez was one of 76 organ donors honored from across the country.
