Progress made in construction of new center.

Groundbreaking ceremonies in Boston for the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in July 2009 marked the beginning of the “largest social service development project in the history of Massachusetts,” according to The Salvation Army Eastern Territory’s website.

Excavation on the 6.5-acre site immediately commenced and by August, about half of the groundwork areas had been dug out and concrete work had begun. Utility work and sewer and water tie-ins also started at that time.

Foundation diggings were almost complete by the time school started in the fall and 85 percent of the concrete had been poured by October.

November marked the arrival of the structural steel for the gym, including the columns and floor framing over the basement area. Steel work is the planned project through January 2010.

The Kroc center is scheduled to open in the spring of 2011 and so far that projection is still on target.
