After 27 years distinguished service together as officers in The Salvation Army, Lt. Colonels Don and Isa McDougald recently entered active retirement.

Both Don and Isa come from Salvation Army backgrounds. As a baby, Don was dedicated in what is now the Portland Tabernacle Corps, and he became a senior soldier at the Los Angeles Tabernacle Corps. He began a career in data processing after graduating from El Camino College.

Born in London, Isa and her family moved to Kalamazoo, Mich., where she attended high school. After graduation, she relocated to Los Angeles and also attended El Camino College.

In 1965, the couple wed at Los Angeles Congress Hall. They entered training in 1975 as part of the first two-year session at Crestmont College, and were commissioned with the Companions of Christ Session.

After serving as corps officers in San Pedro, Ventura and Oxnard, Calif., they were appointed to territorial headquarters (THQ) where Don worked in Finance and Isa in the Home League department. Next came divisional appointments in the Northern California and Intermountain divisions and then a return to THQ.

At THQ, Don served first as property secretary and then as the territorial finance secretary, while Isa served as retired officers’ counselor and then as the overseas personnel and special projects director.

In 1999, they were appointed to national headquarters (NHQ), where Don became the national treasurer and secretary for business administration and Isa the editor of Women’s Ministry Resources.

In retirement, they have returned to the Western Territory, where they are close to their family—son Glenn lives in Puyallup, Wash.; daughter Julie and son-in-law Duncan Sutton live in San Angeles. Family and friends gathered at Crestmont College for a retirement celebration. Lt Colonel Donald Bell presided and presented the retirement certificates; also participating were National Leaders Commissioners W. Todd and Carol Bassett and Colonels Tom and Mary Lewis.

In retirement, they will continue their service to the Lord. Currently, Lt. Colonel Don McDougald is serving as assistant chief secretary at THQ.

Their new address is 1266 Stonewood Court, San Pedro, CA 90732.
