The Salvation Army is continuing to feed Kincade Fire evacuees in Napa, San Rafael and Petaluma.
So far, the nonprofit has served approximately 6,000 meals in just a week. It is currently serving at four shelters and provided breakfast to a church Wednesday morning.
The Roseville Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) canteen deployed early Wednesday to relieve some of the crews, which have been working around-the-clock over the past week to help thousands of evacuees.
Since it broke out Wednesday evening northeast of Geyserville, the Kincade Fire has charred over 76,000 acres and is currently 30 percent contained. It has destroyed at least 206 structures and damaged another 40. More than 4,800 fire personnel are working to keep the blaze from spreading into heavily populated areas.
Over the last week, The Salvation Army has tapped staff and volunteers from Auburn, Napa (including those from the Napa Valley Culinary Training Academy), Oroville, Petaluma, Redding, Roseville, San Rafael, Santa Rosa, and Solano County.
The Salvation Army is currently serving three meals a day to evacuees at Crosswalk Church, the Marin County Fairgrounds, the Napa Valley Expo and the Petaluma Veterans Center.
Several other corps are on standby to respond as the need grows. The Salvation Army will continue serving for as long as necessary.
