As refugees new to the U.S., the Seruyange family connected with the corps’ social services, and the family began living in the corps apartment and volunteering while they sought the appropriate permits to work. The Pasadena Tabernacle Corps provided the Seruyanges with many of life’s necessities, and also adopted the family for Christmas.
“I asked for new shoes,” Skyler said.

“Those stories over and over remind me how grateful people are and how much of a difference help can make,” Greg said. “The Salvation Army is non-judgmental, embraces the challenge and helps the people that others give up on. I think if Christ returned today and saw the efforts of The Salvation Army, he would say, ‘You understand and follow my teaching.’
