June 11 to be International Day of Prayer

Listen to this article

The International Day of Prayer on Pentecost Sunday, June 11, 2000 has as its theme the Inter-national Millennial Congress to be held in Atlanta from June 28 to July 2, 2000. The General calls the Salvationists of the world to unite in prayer for this great event, and to pray specifically:

That the Holy Spirit will prepare the hearts and minds of all delegates to the Congress.

That with sincerity of worship, the name of Jesus Christ will be glorified and God’s Kingdom extended.

That the flame of the Spirit of God will be fanned so that the whole world will be aware of his power through the witness and proclamation of all Salvationists.

The first International Day of Prayer in the present series was held in 1990 when the Salvationists of the world were called to pray for the International Congress held that year. The response was so overwhelming that it was decided to make the International Day of Prayer an annual event–at least for some years ahead. But it is recognized that territories, divisions and corps have their own prayer emphases that must be promoted. It is also recognized that ideas and concepts have their time and that it should not be expected that all ideas will continue indefinitely.

The International Day of Prayer 2000 will therefore be the last in the present series.
