Lieutenant Jeanette Hamel was recently promoted to Glory after a fall at her home.

Jeanette was born in Manila, The Philippines, in 1970. She spent her childhood there, starting school at age 6 and graduating from elementary school at age 12. She was raised by her grandparents.

When Jeanette was 14, she moved to The Marshall Islands, where she attended Catholic high school. It was during her time at Assumption High School when she began reading her Bible and first understood that the Lord loved her; she accepted him as Lord of her life.

After working at 16 as a teacher aide/librarian in the church school, she received her accreditation at the College of Micronesia and then taught seventh grade.

She met Scott Hamel while attending the college, and they were married December 29, 1989, in Majuro, Marshall Islands. After moving to Oregon the following year, they received the call to officership.

Scott and Jeanette entered the College for Officer Training from the Hillsboro Corps. They were commissioned with the Messengers of God’s Love Session in 1997 and appointed corps officers to Hanapepe, Hawaii.

In September, 1997, they were appointed as corps officers to Kolonia, Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia.

Jeanette is survived by her husband, Lieutenant Scott Hamel, their two children, Michael Paul, 8, and Samantha Marie, 5. Details and arrangements for a memorial service will be forthcoming. Captain John Chamness is with Hamel at this time.
