Annual event features former U.S. president and country music star Wynonna Judd.

More than 1,000 guests—including former President George W. Bush and country music star Wynonna Judd—attended The Salvation Army Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Metroplex Command 2013 Doing the Most Good Luncheon, which raises funds for 70 different programs and services.

“There’s no greater army than The Salvation Army at saving one soul at a time,” Bush said.

Bush and his wife, Laura, are serving as honorary chairs of The Salvation Army in Texas 125th Anniversary Celebration, along with Dallas Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones and his wife, Gene. Charlotte Jones Anderson, executive vice president and chief brand officer for the Dallas Cowboys, is chairman of the year-long commemoration.

During the event, Margot Perot received the Order of Distinguished Auxiliary Service, the highest award that The Salvation Army can bestow upon a volunteer. Perot’s service includes founding the William Booth Society and helping to start the Women’s Auxiliary and its annual fashion show.

“I love The Salvation Army,” Perot said. “I’m devoted to the men and women who run this organization, and it’s a great pleasure to be associated with The Salvation Army.”

Wynonna Judd performed with her band. “I was raised by a single mom with help from welfare, food stamps and The Salvation Army,” she said. “How grateful I am to be here.”

Jan Pickens, Salvation Army advisory board member, chaired this year’s luncheon, which also served to kick off the 125th Anniversary Celebration.
