Lt. Colonel Al Van Cleef, Southern California divisional commander, recently visited the El Monte Corps, which three years ago had no people at all. OOPS! WE’RE HUMAN!

In our Christmas issue, we mistakenly named Majors Darvin and Betty Carpenter as Territorial Evangelists when we should have said Captains Darvin and Linda Jordan. Our apologies to the Carpenters, corps officers at San Diego Citadel, as well as to our able and popular evangelists, the Jordans.

CHRISTMAS BLITZ

Envoy Barbara Kennedy tells of their big signup day for families who are struggling to make ends meet in San Jose/Santa Clara, Calif. Families are asked to come to the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds in San Jose, bringing proof of residence, income verification, and identification for all members of the home. With the help of the Junior League of San Jose, more than 1,000 were signed up in one day, assuring a fair basis for Christmas aid.

PATH TO SUCCESS

We are happy to learn that the PATH (Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness) program in Clark County, Nev., has been nominated as the outstanding such program in Nevada, and is one of the seven outstanding programs in the nation.

This program met the following criteria: commitment to positive client outcome; a proven track record of collaboration; consumer and family involvement; and provision of culturally competent services. In addition, one staff member will be invited to attend the Bi-Annual Meeting of State/Territory PATH contacts, to be held in the nation’s capital in June. Congratulations to Lt. Colonels Jim and Maud Sullivan and all concerned in this program.

TOYS ON WHEELS

Olympia, Wash., was invaded early in the Christmas season by 2,500 motorcyclists, delivering toys for The Salvation Army to distribute to needy children. A sunny day brought the largest crowd in the 22-year history of the toy run, sponsored by motorcycle groups statewide.
