Rudd

by Captain Robert L. Rudd –

Capt. Mike Olsen, El Paso County Coordinator, reports that with the help of divisional headquarters and Advisory Board members in Phoenix, a technical specialist was sent to repair the water purification system at the Children’s Home in Acapulco. The gift of the airline tickets is valued at $800.00. The specialist, Darwin Jarvis, donated his time and the repair materials. Many thanks to all those who made this possible!

ALWAYS READY TO SERVE

Envoy Nigel Cross, Northwest Music Director/Evangelism and Adult Ministries director, wrote that he and Captain Suzanne Gallaty recently had a unique opportunity to be of service while coming home from a TEAM-Evangelism seminar at Moses Lake, Wash. Just 20 miles out of Moses Lake they were among the first on the scene of a rollover vehicle with four female passengers, one a baby. One woman had been thrown from the car and was in critical condition. Cross’s cell phone enabled him to call 911 and then the parents of the driver. Gallaty directed traffic for awhile and then held the baby while they treated the other victims. Police were grateful that they had arrived at the right time.

GRIEF AND RELIEF

Lts. John and Candy Stennett are relieved that the city of Newark, Calif., has taken some property off the Army’s hands. Though the property was intended to help solve their space problem, it was not possible to raise the money needed to pay off the mortgage and renovate the site. In spite of having to give up the property, Stennett is optimistic that with the money left over they can expand the present site to make room for food and Christmas supplies.

NEW IDEAS FOR LOM

The Sierra del Mar League of Mercy keeps thinking of ways to make visits more fun. At Hemet, two toddlers and a friendly dog went along for hands-on greetings. LOM Secretary Linda Torres at San Diego Citadel had the Before and After School Program kids involved in making Valentines for the VA patients, and they enjoyed it as much as the veterans.

FACELIFT FOR THE CORPS

The Tucson Temple Corps, under the leadership of Majors Juvencio and Gloria Utrera, has a facelift! In addition to major roofing repairs, the 38-year old building now has new carpeting and a fresh coat of white paint. A wheelchair ramp and newly remodeled restrooms will improve handicapped access.

The chapel has 175 new chairs and a new altar–and the old chairs are being put to good use at other facilities. The building also houses city administration offices, congregate meals for seniors and the newly established Korean ministry.

BIRTHDAY RUN

Lynn James, employee at Southern California DHQ, recently ran in the Los Angeles Marathon, completing the course in 5.5 hours. It was her birthday, too. Congratulations!

THANK YOU!

Majors Dale and Lyn Hill (R) say they were overwhelmed by the generous response of family, friends, colleagues and co-workers to the news of their retirement. “All are special blessings and mean the world to us. May God bless you, one and all, with the abundance of his love and presence.”
