Territorial headquarters and the College for Officer Training are preparing for the annual Good Friday services, which are open to the community.
This year the guest artist will be the beloved Shirley Jones, as the pageant “On a Hill Far Away,” is presented for the fourth year. If you are in the vicinity, attending is a must!
CHANGES ON THE MASTHEAD…
Sue Schumann was recently married in Yosemite Valley to Richard Warner, who is a forensic safety engineer. We are glad to say that they will live locally, and she is looking forward to continuing as New Frontier managing editor. Between them they have seven “children,” the youngest 20-year-old triplets! Our blessings and best wishes go with them in their new life together.
FAREWELL, NONA…
As a member of the Community Relations and Development team, Nona Tolby has, along with other duties, faithfully assisted with New Frontier mailing and address changes for over 13 years. We wish her continued improvement in health, and many happy and fulfilling retirement years. The new circulation manager is Arlene De Jesus, who has been training on-the-job for several months. POMONA HOME LEAGUE
I had the pleasure of attending the Annual Dinner of the Pomona Home League, where my wife, Captain Mariam Rudd, was keynote speaker. There were 53 in attendance, and 10 new members were enrolled. Congratulations to Adrienne Winkels, Home League secretary, and Corps Officer Major Moses Reyes for a very well-planned and successful evening!
CORPORATE FRIEND LEAVES AREA
Northrop Grumman Corporation has been a great supporter of the community and of The Salvation Army. In one of their last public events, the Army received a $5,000 check as one of the 100 agencies receiving donations for programs and activities.
CONSUL SHARES CONCERNS
Lt. Colonel Al Van Cleef, Southern California divisional commander, was recently received as a visitor by United Kingdom Consul General Paul Dimond. They shared many concerns about the community and he is anxious to have a first-hand look at our programs and ministries. The Consul has agreed to become an Advisory Board member.
EL NINO AFFECTS CALIF.
The four California divisions have been challenged by the impact of El Niño storms during recent weeks, with record amounts of rain and damaging winds. Golden State and Del Oro Divisions have been particularly hard-pressed to feed victims and shelter homeless. Brief periods of dry weather have given some respite. Captain Art Storey, territorial emergency/disaster coordinator, has been on the move, surveying the Army’s often overwhelming task.
