Tournament of Roses supports SA relief
Captain Edward Hill, Pasadena Tabernacle corps officer, received a check recently for $23,070 from the Tournament of Roses Foundation, to assist Salvation Army work with victims of Hurricane Katrina and Rita.

Culver’s restaurant cares
Kevin Brocksieck, Colorado Springs director of public relations, reports that Culver’s Restaurant donated 10 percent of all proceeds on November 15 to benefit Energy Outreach Colorado, which gives The Salvation Army $20,000 a year in funds to help struggling families with energy bills.

McCarthy recognized for child safety
John McCarthy, director of the Western Territory’s risk management, was recognized by Praesidium, the national leader in abuse risk management, for working with SA colleagues to develop and implement comprehensive child safety policies and practices in more than 1,700 Army programs in 13 states.

The Child Safety team includes: Anne Calvo, Major Allie Niles, Major Victor Doughty, Captain Kyle Smith, Jim Boyd, Mike Woodruff, Miki Webb, Gordon Bingham, Carolyn Gordon, Suseela Gupta and Sylvia Benko.

Starlites honored
The Denver City Council chose the Denver Red Shield Colorado Starlites to receive the Community Youth Program Award at the 23rd Annual Hiawatha Davis, Jr., luncheon on December 21. Councilwoman Elbra Wedgeworth will present the award. “We are very proud of our young people,” said Lt. Ron McKinney, in-charge, Denver Red Shield.

Officers for 2005-2006 are: Colonel George Church, president; Commissioner Robert Saunders, vice president; Major Carol Pontsler, second vice president; Major Melba Gilden, secretary, and Major Frank Brown, treasurer.
