Army provides hydration
With daytime temperatures soaring to 113 degrees in Phoenix, Ariz., the Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services deployed 10 hydration stations throughout the Valley. At each location, chilled bottled water, respite, safety information were provided; transportation assistance, if needed, was provided to individuals in or potentially in distresses due to the heat.

The staff at The Salvation Army’s Family Treatment Services (FTS), in Honolulu, Hi. has the enviable position of working at one of the “Best Places to Work in Hawai‘i”—an award bestowed by Hawai‘i Business Magazine. The facility’s 90 men and women provide specialized mental health, educational and chemical dependency services.
“The kindness, compassion and skill our people bring to families deserve our gratitude and support to make their work environment a place where they feel valued,” says Linda Rich, executive director. It is Hawaii’s only licensed residential alcohol and drug treatment program for pregnant and parenting women.
Teeing it up for the Army
Actors Peter “RoboCop” Weller, Kevin “Hercules” Sorbo, and singing legend Pat Boone joined with other celebrities and supporters to play in The Salvation Army’s 2nd Annual Celebrity Golf Classic held at Trump National Golf Course, Los Angeles.
At an awards dinner following, So. Calif. Divisional Commander Lt. Colonel Paul Bollwahn presented an award of appreciation to NFL legend and Hall of Famer Roger Staubach, who has dedicated years of service to the Army in his hometown of Dallas and as a member of the national advisory board. Ten footballs signed by Staubach were auctioned off, and he threw the balls to each winner, enabling them to tell the story of how they caught a pass from an NFL legend.
Bend enrolls soldiers
Bend, Ore., Corps Officers Captains John and Sabrina Tumey report the recent enrollments of junior soldier Heather Taylor and senior soldiers Kimi Smith and John Aho. Amanda Tumey has passed her test, and is set to become the corps’ newest Commissioner’s Sunbeam. Congratulations to all!
Madsen earns degree
Congratulations are in store for THQ Finance Trainee Major Audrey Madsen, who has recently earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance, cum laude, from Colorado Technical University.

Please pray for the cadets of future training college sessions, whose members are as yet unknown except to God. The sessional name in 2009 is Ambassadors of Holiness; in 2010 it will be Friends of Christ; in 2011 Proclaimers of the Resurrection; and in 2012 Disciples of the Cross.
