The first-ever Spanish Bible Conference of the West is slated for May 17-19, 2013, at Pine Summit Camp, Big Bear Lake, Calif., supported by the Multicultural Ministries Department under the leadership of Lt. Colonels Zoilo and Magali Pardo.

It is Territorial Commander Commissioner James Knaggs’ goal to provide in-depth biblical teaching to this large segment of The Salvation Army in the West. Forty of the territory’s corps preach in Spanish as the Latino population in the U.S. continues to grow, reaching 50.5 million people (16 percent of the population) in 2010.

The event’s theme will be “Committed to the Truth,” with special guests Commissioners Torben and Deise Elisen, international secretaries of the Americas and the Caribbean, focusing on Hebrews 4:12-13: For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account (NIV).

It will be an opportunity for the West’s Spanish-speaking soldiers from around the territory to grow spiritually through Bible study, praise and worship in their own language, and deepening an understanding of the biblical basis of Salvation Army doctrines and practices.
