The Salvation Army’s White Shield Center in Portland, Oregon, participated in a “Heavenly Bed-Making Challenge”—hosted by the Westin Portland to benefit local women’s shelters and to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its signature Heavenly Bed.

White Shield participants—including Robin Carlson, executive director—finished in third place, receiving sheet sets and towels for the center.

The White Shield Center is a residential treatment facility—the only one of its kind in Oregon—that provides education and guidance to chronically victimized adolescent girls who are in state custody. Opened in 1914 as a maternity home and hospital for unwed mothers, the center now provides residential treatment for abused and disturbed teenage girls who are pregnant or parenting an infant.

It also offers long-term residential treatment to intellectually and developmentally delayed female adolescents.
