Two schools in Cypress, Calif.—Swain Elementary and King Elementary—raised $2, 254 in an effort called “Change for Haiti.” Funds will pass through the Compton Corps to SAWSO (Salvation Army World Service Office) for the Army’s work in Haiti, with the hope that the money can go to a specific elementary school in Haiti with which the California schools will be able to correspond. Compton Corps Officer Captain Martin Ross’s daughter, Kristen, attends Swain. Pictured are Ross with Doug Bettencourt—whose class spearheaded the campaign—and his students.
