A degree completion program for officers in the USA Western Territory

In response to a request from the Western Territory, Booth College has developed a degree completion program for officers in Christian Studies. The Bachelor of Arts (Advanced) in Christian Studies provides students with the opportunity for in-depth study of the Bible and the history, theology and practice of Christianity. The program builds on the Associate of Arts degree offered by the College for Officer Training (USA Western Territory) and credits earned in other post-secondary programs. The program is delivered by Extended Learning combining distance/online education and face-to-face intensives offered on the CFOT Crestmont campus and in Winnipeg, Canada.

Many of the program requirements and a number of electives are available by distance/online format year round in the fall, winter and spring-summer semesters. These courses were prepared by the faculty of Booth College and combine the content and high standards of Booth College courses with the accessibility of the online format. At present, approximately one third of the program can be completed online but more online courses are already in development.

One of the unique advantages of studying online at Booth College is the opportunity to study alongside officers from around the world. The GAT Scholarship program makes Booth College online courses available to officers from around the world. In the summer of 2005, for example, officer students from 17 different countries studied courses such as Introduction to Social Work, Wesleyan Distinctives in Theology and Professional Ethics for Ministry.

The degree completion program requires that students complete 54 credit hours beyond CFOT. Of these 54 credits, 30 credits must be Booth College credits. The other 24 credits are either completed with Booth College or transferred into the program from another institution such as Crestmont.

Students fulfill the 12 hour Winnipeg residency requirement by enrolling in courses offered in our Winnipeg August intensive sessions. Because of the large number of students attending these sessions the college is able to offer a broad range of course options by top flight professors in Bible, theology, ministry and social work. Combine this with the collegiality of 100 or so fellow students from across the continent, an enriching chapel program and opportunities for fun in and around the city and you have the ingredients for a truly life-changing experience.
