Company plans to donate $500,000 to The Salvation Army with the help of shoppers

From now through Dec. 13, customers can visit jcp.com/angel and participate in an online version of The Salvation Army Angel Giving Tree program, providing gifts to children, teens and seniors who, due to financial hardship, may not otherwise receive a Christmas gift.

With the need greater than ever this year, JcPenney is inviting its Black Friday shoppers to help generate a half a million-dollar donation to The Salvation Army in one of two ways: On Thanksgiving Day, adopt an Angel online at jcp.com/angel and JcPenney will donate $50 for every Angel adoption, up to $400,000. On Black Friday, check-in to a JcPenney store using Foursquare and the company will donate $25 for every check-in made between 4 a.m. and 1 p.m., up to $100,000.

Customers can choose to adopt an Angel in any community by searching by zip code, city and state, age and gender. The angel adoption process takes less than 10 minutes, which is followed by a confirmation email that includes the Angel’s wish list and information on where to ship your gifts.

This year, supporters can also adopt 10 or more angels as part of a new group adoption feature. Adopting angels as a group enables companies, churches, civic organizations or online communities to manage the group adoption process online by using the “create a group” function on jcp.com/angel.

In order to ensure delivery by Christmas, all adoptions and gift purchases made on jcp.com must be completed before Dec. 9, otherwise you have until Dec. 13 to purchase a JcPenney gift card.

Angel Giving Tree gifts purchased through jcp.com can be shipped free of charge to one of 1,200 Salvation Army collection centers nationwide putting the entire selection, shopping and delivery process at the customer’s fingertips.

Each year, The Salvation Army helps more than 4 million people through social service programs during Christmas. The Angel Giving Tree program is one way a small gift can bring joy to a Salvation Army Angel this Christmas season.
