“Life, Love and Laughter!” was the theme for the recent Intermountain Division’s annual women’s retreat. From Colorado, Wyoming, Utah and Montana, 217 women gathered to share experiences of God’s love.
Setting a humorous stage for the weekend, the women from the Denver Citadel Corps recreated the cast of Laugh-In. Decorated in psychedelic colors, the meeting room was retro, and Saturday evening’s attire was fashion from the 60s and 70s. Optional weekend activities included antique shopping, a trip to the tea factory, a tour of the Butterfly Pavilion, or relaxing at the pool.
Special guest was Patty LaRoche, wife of professional baseball player, Dave LaRoche. Even as the wife of a successful athlete, Patty has experienced difficulties. She has suffered a miscarriage and a premature birth, and nursed a rebellious teenage son who experienced a horrible burn accident. Though Patty was at every game her husband pitched and lived his success with him, she didn’t experience a real “no-hitter” until she gave her life over to Christ. She challenged her listeners to search their lives and make each day one that is God-honoring.
Another home run was hit when the Intermountain women presented over $2,400 for this year’s Territorial Project.
The weekend’s message was clear: Life happens…and it’s laughter that helps keep us in balance…but it’s the love of Jesus Christ that gives us a firm foundation to stand on.
