Colonel Dennis L. Phillips, chief secretary and chairman of the Congress Planning Committee, has released the preliminary schedule for the Great Western Victory Congress to be held next June in Long Beach, Calif.
“There is a ‘holy anticipation’ in the air regarding the Congress. Hallelujah!” Phillips said. “The General has endorsed our plans, and Salvationists from all over the Western Territory look forward to welcoming General and Mrs. Rader ‘back home’ and to sitting under their ministry and preaching during the Congress.”
Main events for the Congress weekend include a Victory Rally Friday night, men’s and women’s rallies Saturday morning, and a family fair. In addition, Rader will conduct a Review of the Troops on Saturday afternoon, and the College for Officer Training will present a musical.
Events slated for Sunday include the commissioning and appointment of new lieutenants and a public farewell for Commissioners Peter and Grace Chang, who will be retiring. Preliminary plans also include a Junior Singing Company competition, Life Service Breakfast, and Western Music Institute reunion.
General Paul and Mrs. General Kay Rader, as well as the Army’s national leaders, Commissioners Robert and Alice Watson, will take an active part in all of the proceedings. “There will be something for everyone,” said Phillips. “Of that you can be sure.”
The Great Western Victory Congress will take place on the weekend of June 6-8, 1997, at the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center.
