Volunteers from Time magazine pitched in at The Salvation Army’s homeless shelter in Lahaina, Maui, recently, where they helped feed more than 60 persons.
The volunteer service was part of a community service program conducted by 210 members of Time’s publishing staff to “give back” to the community. Thirteen other nonprofit organizations in the West Maui community benefited by having volunteers perform different jobs including painting, clearing, planting and working with children on the designated day.
“We are delighted to accept Time‘s offer to help feed the homeless and help in our thrift store,” said Envoy Richard Hieb, Lahaina Corps. “It is heartwarming to know that such large corporations find a way to instill the value of community service.”
“I am touched by the charitable work being done by The Salvation Army in Lahaina to help the needy, especially in feeding the homeless people,” said volunteer Suzy Wagner. “I guess this experience has opened my eyes to the needs of those less fortunate and it feels good to be able to help in some way,” she added.
