More than 62,000 residents lost power the following day.

The Salvation Army is providing meals and support to displaced residents from Longview and Gregg County, Texas, following widespread power outages caused by severe storms over Memorial Day weekend.
The severe weather produced an EF-1 tornado in addition to high winds and heavy rain. More than 62,000 residents initially lost power on Monday. There were no reported injuries after the storm.
The Salvation Army mobile kitchens from Longview and Texarkana mobilized on Tuesday morning and are currently stationed at the Red Cross shelter on the Gregg County Fairgrounds.
“Salvation Army staff and volunteers are serving lunch and dinner to shelter guests and those in the community still without power or unable to prepare meals,” said Longview Corps Officer Captain Mark Jacobs. “We are privileged to serve the community at this time and will remain here until we are no longer needed.”
