The Salvation Army opened a new service extension center in Atascadero, Calif., after sharing a space with Loaves & Fishes for 15 years.
The Atascadero Chamber of Commerce participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony, and Salvation Army officers and Atascadero Mayor Tom O’Malley delivered speeches.
The Salvation Army has worked in the Central Coast city for 20 years. With the additional space, it will be able to open a small food pantry.
Beth Quaintance, service extension representative for San Luis Obispo County, said the office will continue to serve the community through utility assistance, eviction prevention, camp and clothing vouchers.
The new office is also looking for volunteers and bell ringers for the upcoming holiday season.
The Salvation Army also recently opened a service extension center in nearby Morro Bay.
