Army selected as one of 10 charities to receive a portion of $3m.

From May 10-25, Target is sponsoring its first ever Facebook giving campaign called Bullseye Gives. They have chosen 10 charities to participate in this $3 million give-away, and The Salvation Army (TSA) is one of them. Donations are given based on votes received: the more votes, the more money. Friends, fans and donors can access the site and vote for the charity of their choice. Each vote increases the donation given by Target to the charity.

The percentage of votes received by TSA will determine Target’s portion of the $3m donation. Votes and monies achieved can be viewed in real time on the Facebook page. There’s no need to be an Army employee or attendee; everyone can vote once a day, every day, through May 25. Final figures will be announced on May 26.

For four years, Target and TSA have joined in providing educational and/or life-sustaining items to those in need, especially at-risk youth. In 2008 Target donated $1 million to revamp a library, media center or other educational Salvation Army facility. These projects are currently under construction with a completion date of by the end of this year.

The centers will provide programs for education and after-school care for kids in the community. Job training and resume assistance will be available for adults affected by the current economic downturn. Funds received through Bullseye Gives will be used to enhance current library projects or build new centers across the US.
