Reno’s 8th Annual Dinner and Christmas Kettle Kick-off at Harrah’s was so much fun that some folks didn’t want to leave when it was over! With over 250 special guests, terrific entertainment and fantastic auction items, the event was our most successful since its inception in 2002.
Territorial Commander Commissioner Philip Swyers delivered the evening’s keynote address. From the moment he took the stage, Swyers commanded the audience’s attention. It’s no secret that he is a football fan, and his speech was peppered with game analogies that work just as well when talking about The Salvation Army’s mission to help the less fortunate. “Throw the pass,” said the Commissioner. “When we’re blessed by assistance from others, we need to pass it on—help someone else.”
Peter Noone, of Herman’s Hermits fame, flew in from California for the fundraiser. Noone is a good friend of Advisory Board member Don Nagle.
Entertainment included vocalist/impressionist Greg London, who has appeared in Harrah’s showroom for over two years; the Divisional Salvation Army Brass Ensemble from Sacramento and the Peter Supersano Duo.
Award recipients were Harrah’s Reno, Community Partner; BakeMark, Community Service; Americom Broadcasting, Media; and Wells Fargo, Volunteer of the Year.
