Seattle-based Starbucks Coffee has donated 41,473 pounds of coffee to The Salvation Army to supply shelters, food banks and other programs for people in need.
“This comes at a time when food banks are low and there are many areas here in the Northwest and across the U.S. that are in tremendous need. We’re grateful that Starbucks has entrusted us with this gift, and that Northwest Air Cargo is making it possible for the Army to offer the best to those who are hurting so very badly,” said Northwest Divisional Commander Lt. Colonel Evelyn J. Hunter.
In addition to supplying Army centers throughout the Western states, shipments are going to aid victims and relief workers at two disaster sites, including Kennedy Airport for the relief workers and families of the recent TWA Flight 800 crash. Along with refreshments, The Salvation Army is providing trauma counseling, emotional and spiritual support and practical assistance with travel and motel accommodations for relatives of the victims.
Northwest Air Cargo has also flown coffee into Chicago’s O’Hare Airport for flood relief efforts in Illinois and Indiana. Food, beverages and cleanup kits are going to residents and disaster response crews at the site of recent floods.
