Long Beach Citadel shows the love of Jesus to the community.

The night of Dec. 2, 2012, members of The Salvation Army Long Beach (Calif.) Citadel Corps put their faith into practice when they brought a “soup, soap and salvation” service to the homeless of a local park.
After a Saturday evening young adult salvation nation service, over 30 volunteers headed to Lincoln Park in downtown Long Beach where they served 71 homeless individuals with a hot cup of chicken soup and a winter packet, which included a hygiene kit, hats, gloves, warmers, blankets, and instant coffee. Members of the group prayed with the folks, sharing the love of Jesus emotionally and physically.
“What a blessed event this was,” said Lincoln Hawk, youth ministries director at the Citadel, “to see corps folks doing what this Army was established to do, to preach the gospel and help the needy.”
The event was easily organized with the support of a local city councilman and many of the corps members. The Citadel plans to develop it into a weekly event, extending the hands of the corps and the heart of God to the needy of the city—to truly change lives one person at a time!
