soldier promoted to glory. soldier promoted to glory. edith alma walker parton–was recently promoted to glory from san diego, calif., at the age of 91. though health problems prevented her from finishing the course at the training college, she remained a faithful soldier. for 68 years she served in many capacities at the san diego citadel corps. in the la jolla area she was a familiar symbol of the salvation army as she manned the christmas kettle. she is survived by three sons and 11 grandchildren.
