slideshow: helping handbags luncheon and auction. event raised nearly $12,000 more than last year’s luncheon. the salvation army women’s auxiliary in sacramento, california, held its 14th annual helping handbags luncheon and auction at mcclellan conference center. themed, “mad hatter’s garden” the event auctioned off over 500 handbags donated by celebrities and women from the community, along with hundreds of items from local businesses. western territorial leaders commissioners kenneth g. and jolene k. hodder were both in attendance. jolene hodder even described the event as “spectacular.”. the luncheon and auction raised over $140,000, which will benefit underprivileged women and children across the greater sacramento area through programs such as the women of hope, which offers hope and resources to women who have found themselves in the salvation army’s women’s shelter or transitional housing in sacramento. the program focuses on providing each woman the tools to find a job and to discover a new future. click the slideshow to view photos from the event. photos by tia gemmell
