Emergency shelter executive director recognized for her work.

Shannon Singleton, executive director at The Salvation Army Female Emergency Shelter (SAFES) in Portland, Ore., received an award from the Coordinating Committee to End Homelessness (CCEH) at its Achievement Awards Ceremony on July 20 in Portland.
Portland City Commissioner Nick Fish and Multnomah County Commissioner Deborah Kafoury presented the awards to six individuals—selected by the CCEH—for their efforts to end homelessness in the Portland area.
In his opening statements Fish said, it is “time to recognize the people in the trenches” because the work being done by them is substantial and thousands have been helped through it.
Fish introduced Singleton, who is not only the director at SAFES, but also a member of the CCEH Steering Committee, as “a strong voice for women, people experiencing homelessness, communities of color, persons with disabilities and other marginalized groups.”
Singleton was recognized for her leadership at SAFES and for her ability to create strong partnerships with other agencies, resulting in a stronger communitywide effort toward ending homelessness.
“We all did and do good work,” she said. “I am fortunate to get to tell the story of the women in our community whose voice is so often silenced.”
