Northwest Division assembles a million food kits for Haiti.

The Salvation Army’s Northwest Division set records Memorial Day weekend after thousands of volunteers packed more than a million meals for Haiti earthquake survivors. Working with Numana, Inc. since the Jan. 12 disaster, The Salvation Army has held Million Meal events in cities nationwide.
About 2,500 volunteers assembled 1,043,280 meals in two days at The Washington State Convention Center in Seattle. After a successful kick off, the event really went into high gear the second day after mass media coverage called the community to action.
Volunteers came alone, with their friends, their colleagues, sports teams, churches and more—all to help feed those still suffering in Haiti. In the five months post-quake, The Salvation Army has packed, sent and distributed 15 million meals in Port-au-Prince alone.
