Sacramento’s Homeless Employment Advocacy Committee (HEAC), which is made up of 13 nonprofits, including The Salvation Army, hosted a hiring event on June 1 at The Salvation Army’s Ray Robinson Oak Park Community Center.
The goal of this event was to link job-ready people to companies ready to hire on the spot. Participating HEAC agencies vetted the potential employees and designated them as qualified candidates. More than 80 applicants attended the event with resumes in hand and dressed for one-on-one interviews.
One of the hopefuls was Jeremiah Hackett, a current client of The Salvation Army’s transitional living program in Sacramento.
“We’re all looking for a job, and hopefully we can find someone to give us that opportunity,” Hackett said.
Event organizers hope the job fair will be an annual event, and they hope to attract even more local business to participate in the future.
“This event has great potential to affect so many people looking for a change,” said Elizabeth Hudson, Salvation Army Sacramento County social services director. “This is encouraging to have partnerships with a lot of local business and agencies with a single goal to help people.”
