A message from Territorial Commander Commissioner Kenneth G. Hodder:
My wife and I today are truly on what can be referred to as the frontline of The Salvation Army’s battle against the COVID-19 virus. We’re at the Siemon Center in South Los Angeles, where normally The Salvation Army maintains an active childcare program and has worship on Sundays. But that hasn’t been true for the last three weeks.
In this room over the past 15 days, The Salvation Army has served more than 15,000 food boxes to people who live in the immediate area. That’s more than 22,000 people served. Why so many? Because this is a part of South Los Angeles that is known as a food desert. There are no major grocery stores, but the need is here and The Salvation Army is all about meeting the need at the point of need.
What’s happening here at the Siemon Center is impressive, but it’s not unique. The same thing is happening across the United States, where local Salvation Army units are doing precisely the same kind of service. But we need your support to do even more.
