Sealing their oath to the Lord and broadening their passion to serve, Majors Doug and Colleen Riley have officially accepted their appointment as leaders of the Del Oro Division.
Lifelong friends and mentors Commissioners Kenneth and Barbara Hood performed the Rileys’ installation, which took place recently at the Concord Corps. As they knelt at the mercy seat, the couple promised to honor and cherish their new commitments.
The installation included a special appearance by Lt. Colonel Gladys Riley, Major Doug Riley’s mother. She spoke about the couple’s passion for The Salvation Army and commitment to God and their family. After sharing a few humorous anecdotes about her son, she focused on his leadership ability. In addition, as any mother would, she gave him a few extra “chores” to do—things she said will make the Del Oro Division shine even brighter!
Alongside fellow officers, soldiers, program beneficiaries, family and friends, the Rileys and their four children accepted the challenge and made a call to action, asking everyone to think big. The question of the night was: How big is your God? Major Doug Riley asked the 280-plus in attendance to work under God and continue to do bigger, better, Godly things to serve those in need. He presented a slideshow of exciting happenings in the division, illuminating just how big God has been and how he has blessed the Del Oro Division. Riley said, “Even though God has done big things for us so far, he can do bigger, if we pray and work hard for it.
“I believe in a God who can do anything,” he said.
