‘Soldier of Christ – Well Done!’ |
Mrs. Lt. Colonel Linnea Gifford (R) was recently promoted to Glory, while peacefully sleeping, from the Palmcrest North Convalescent Home.
Linnea Goode was born in Chicago in 1908. Her parents, Lt. Colonel and Mrs. Richard Goode, were well-known officers in the Scandinavian Department. She entered training from the San Francisco Waterfront Corps and was commissioned in 1940 with the Hold Fast Session.
Shortly after commissioning, she married then-Major Ranson Gifford. They served faithfully together for 26 years until retirement in 1966.
Gifford was promoted to Glory in 1978. Linnea continued to reside in Long Beach, Calif., serving in various positions until she fell and broke her hip eight years ago. Then, she moved into the assisted living section of the Palmcrest Home. She continued to be a faithful soldier and prayer warrior of the Long Beach Corps.
Her special gift to all who knew her was her giving and loving spirit.
Linnea Gifford leaves behind a large number of relatives who will miss her dearly. Condolences may be addressed to “The Family of Linnea Gifford” and sent to The Salvation Army Long Beach Citadel Corps, 455 E. Spring Street, Long Beach CA 90806. Those who wish to contribute to the Linnea Gifford Memorial fund may do so by sending their contribution to the Long Beach Citadel Corps.
A memorial service was held at the corps with Lt. Col. Herbert J. Wiseman (R) speaking and Major Tom Cisar (R), a long time friend, participating.
