Captain James Wilson (R) was recently promoted to Glory from his home in Tucson, Ariz.
Jim was born in 1930 in Whitewright, Tex., and raised by his great-uncle and aunt. Upon graduating from high school, He enlisted in the Navy, serving from 1945-1951. In 1972, he began working for the Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Program in El Paso, Tex. It was there that he met and married Captain Anna Ubbinga, who was stationed at the Booth Home for Unwed Mothers.
Jim was commissioned in 1977 as part of the Companions of Christ Session and Anna was reinstated as an officer. Their first appointment was Roswell, New Mex., as corps officers, and then Tempe, Ariz. In 1979 they were appointed as trainees to the Tucson ARC.
Following other ARC appointments they returned to corps work, the last at Tucson Temple, Ariz. Jim and Anna’s last appointment before their retirement in 1995 was as Southwest Divisional evangelists.
In 1991 he received a heart transplant. After retirement, he continued his ministry as long as his health permitted and volunteered as chaplain at the Tucson ARC.
Captain Wilson is survived by his loving wife, Anna; an adopted son and daughter-in-law, John and Danni Hayes; and a grandson, Christian James.
A Celebration of Life was held at the Tucson Temple Corps, with Lt. Colonel Mervyn Morelock (R), Major John Reed and Major Juvencio Utrera participating. John Hayes brought the message. Interment was in Indiana.
