pomona, calif., corps inaugurates brass band. pomona, calif., corps inaugurates brass band. [photo by nancy roland] it has been more than 15 years since the salvation army pomona corps has had a band; however, a new era has begun. during their first performance on sunday morning, march 14, the band played a prelude (“falcon street”), a closing hymn (“the doxology”), and a postlude (“diademata”). band members are: ryan brown and debbie dailey, first cornet; claudia sparrow and carrie sparrow, second cornet; alexandria sparrow, alto horn; donald wambolt, b-flat tuba; luke verseput, baritone; bandmaster roland furman, trombone. furman plans to add a second alto horn and another tuba in the near future. in preparation, a certified instrument repair technician refurbished 22 instruments. individuals then received instrument assignments and spent five weeks in intense rehearsals. the band is presently practicing for the kick-off of the corps camping program in june. plans are also being formulated for a fundraising concert in september and a christmas program.
