Yakima Corps was host for the Northwest Division’s Hispanic Women’s Ministries Institute, which was met with enthusiasm by the 50 women attending from three corps: Grandview Temple, Pasco Temple, and Yakima Temple.
The keynote speaker was Lt. Colonel Janice Buchanan, who emphasized the importance of love as the seed of success rather than the world’s idea of fame, wealth, and power.
The women chose two of the four workshops offered: “Single Parents, Meeting Their Special Needs,” taught by Yakima soldier Eloisa Romo Rivas; “How to Win Your Husband For Christ,” taught as a team by Lt. Patricia Giron and Gadiela Vazquez, a Pasco Temple soldier; “How to Testify to Family and Friends,” led by Lt. Christine Torres; and “How to Help Your Children to be Successful,” with Aurora Crone, a school teacher from the Grandview Temple Corps.
Major Deanna Sholin of the Yakima Corps and her support team provided coffee and sweet rolls in the morning and a delicious lunch.
Eighteen women responded to the challenge at the end of the day, “Open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest,” and re-dedicated their lives to reaching their world with the good news of salvation, the real seed of success.
