Denver Red Shield, Colo., opened its 2005 Summer Day Camp program with a concert by the New Beginnings Youth Choir from Arlington, Texas. More than 80 children and adults listened to an hour-long gospel concert as a part of their first of ten weeks of day camp.

Every year the Denver Red Shield Corps utilizes Christian volunteer groups from around the country to help with its camp program. Each week a different group assists the Red Shield Summer Camp staff as they minister to the needs of the community by providing safe, affordable, Christian summer childcare.

Lt. Roberta McKinney reports that for the first time in three years, all ten weeks are full and there is a waiting list. “The quality of programming and care has been praised by many parents, and other care-giving agencies are now working with the Red Shield by referring children and parents to our camp,” states McKinney.

In addition to daily summer camp activities, Denver Red Shield also will be sending 143 inner city children to “sleep-a-way” camp at the Intermountain’s Estes Park Camp High Peaks.
