The Salvation Army’s National Seminar on Evangelism (NSE), held in Glen Eyrie, Colo., has provided soldiers and officers with hands-on evangelism training since 1969.

This year, more than 160 delegates—38 from the West—will gather in the beautiful Rocky Mountains to gain ease and skill in evangelism, in addition to gaining knowledge and practice in discipleship.

Applications to attend NSE are available from divisional headquarters.

The following testimony from Gary Weaver, a 2002 delegate from the Oxnard, Calif., corps, provides insight into the seminar.

“These were the five most intense days of my life. My biggest personal fear was one-on-one evangelism. When it came time for the one-on-one, I was paired up with a young lady who asked if I would do the talking, as she was too shy. When it came time to pray with a young woman we encountered, though, my partner did most of the talking! As you can see, God gave her the words and the courage to speak his words. He also gave me strength because we prayed with this young woman in a parking lot during a lightning storm. (I happen to be afraid of lightning.)

“I signed up for the track on how to reach social service clients. I learned ways to reach this client base that I had never considered. Now, when time permits, I go to the warming shelter at the corps. There, I ask the clients what they know about The Salvation Army, and if they know we are a church. And while we are meeting their physical needs, are they aware that we also can help address their spiritual needs?

“I was very blessed to have been chosen to attend the National Seminar on Evangelism; if you get an opportunity to attend, be prepared to be blessed!”
