Lieutenant Drew Helms, Hayward Corps officer, was promoted to Glory on Sunday, Feb. 11, following a car accident which occurred two blocks from his quarters. Helms was driving to the corps to conduct the evening service. According to the police report, the driver of the other car had been driving at high speeds and in a reckless manner and ran a red light at the intersection where the accident occurred. After fleeing the scene, he was later arrested and is now in jail.
Two memorial services are scheduled: one to be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15, at the Oakland Citadel Corps and one at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Seattle Temple Corps. Major Linda Markiewicz, undersecretary for the Americas and Caribbean, will conduct both services. She will bring a personal message to the family from General and Mrs. Paul (Kay) Rader. Interment will be at Gig Harbor, near Tacoma, Wash., at approximately 3 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 17.
Prayer support is requested for his wife, Lieutenant Nancy Helms, and their children Nicholas, Cameron and Katherine, as well as his parents, Majors Gordon and Peggy Helms, and his brothers Paul, Derek, and Craig.
